Spend a weekend on the quiet side of the Tetons. Nestled between the Big Hole and Teton mountain ranges, Teton Valley features endless outdoor adventure, art, a great dining scene, and a jam-packed event calendar.
If you can plan your visit to coincide with a local event, you won’t be disappointed. In spring, Grand Targhee Resort rounds out its winter season with a few quirky events. Competitors in the Pond Skim attempt to glide across a pond of water on skis or a snowboard, while Cardboard Box Derby contestants fly down the slopes in a contraption handcrafted out of cardboard. The Crazy Horse Snowmobile Hillclimb is another spring favorite where competitors race their snowmobiles up the hill.
In summertime, there’s music in the air as the valley reverberates with live music. Music on Main is a series of live outdoor concerts in Victor, and each show is accompanied by a bustling food truck scene. Targhee Fest and the Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival offer two long weekends of big-name music in the mountains at Grand Targhee Resort.
The Teton Valley Balloon Rally is an annual hot air balloon tradition which occurs right around the Fourth of July as hot air balloon pilots come from all around to soar high in the Tetons. The sky fills with balloons and visitors can talk to the pilots and even go for tethered or untethered rides. The Fourth of July also brings a festive parade to the valley, along with entertainment and fireworks. The Wydaho Rendezvous Bike Festival features everything from demo bikes to group rides, clinics, a bike film night, and more. Driggs Plein Air Festival is an opportunity for artists to find inspiration in the Tetons and create and sell works of locally inspired art. In September, when the sandhill cranes make a migratory stop in the valley, the Greater Yellowstone Crane Festival celebrates these winged wonders.
The Teton Valley Rodeo is a fun weekly summer tradition. Held on Friday nights, it features events ranging from kids’ mutton busting to steer wrestling, barrel racing, and more. The Teton Valley Fair includes rodeo, livestock, competitions, Figure 8 races, and other events, and generally takes place in early August.
Winter brings the Victor Holiday Festival & Parade of Lights, New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade and Fireworks at Grand Targhee Resort, and the annual snow sculpting festival in Driggs each January.
Endless Outdoor Adventures
Whether you prefer your mountains full of summer wildflowers or deep snow, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Teton Valley. Grand Targhee Resort is a hot spot for both winter and summer fun, so plan on spending at least half a day there. In summer, the lifts open for mountain biking, and the mountain is criss-crossed with hiking trails and gorgeous views.
Summer fun goes far beyond the resort, though. The valley features lots of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and more, and there are plenty of places to camp and backpack nearby. Float or stand-up paddleboard, go fishing, or hop on a horse and go for a ride. ATV riders will also find plenty of routes to relish, from the BPA Line Trail to Baldy Knoll and beyond.
When the snow falls, get ready to downhill ski or snowboard, cross-country ski, snowshoe, fat bike, and snowmobile all around Teton Valley. Grand Targhee Resort offers downhill skiing and snowboarding, cross-country skiing, fat biking, and more. The Big Hole Mountains feature 280 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, so you’ll find plenty of places to get outside.
History, Culture & Art
For a taste of history, culture, and art, check out the Teton Geotourism Center and the Teton Valley Museum. Shop for local art at The Local Galleria, Horn Mountain Living Gallery, and be sure to check out the artists at the Teton Valley Farmers Market and art shows.
Delicious Local Food & Drinks
After a day outside working up an appetite, check out Teton Valley’s incredible restaurants. Whether you’re looking for a local gastropub, Asian fusion, Mexican cuisine, wood-fired pizza, BBQ, or Northern Thai food, this small valley has it. Be sure to grab a huckleberry shake from Victor Emporium and a heaping platter of Wydaho nachos—waffle fries topped with piles of all the best nacho toppings—from the Trap Bar & Grill at Grand Targhee Resort. In summer, stop by the Teton Valley Farmers Market on Fridays for fresh local flavors.
If breweries are your thing, the valley features four unique local breweries serving up local microbrews. Grand Teton Distillery produces spirits, and there are two cider producers in the valley as well.
