Looking for a new winter experience in Southeast Idaho? A snowcoach tour of Island Park is a unique and exciting way to explore the area surrounding Yellowstone National Park during the colder months. Snowcoaches are large, specially equipped vehicles that are designed to travel over snow and ice, allowing visitors to experience the park’s breathtaking landscapes and wildlife in comfort and safety. Caldera Tours offers this expedition on two Bombardier snowcoaches. “The Bomb” (1952) and “Griz”(1956), respectively, are an incredible way to experience the area’s natural wonders.  The comfortable and reliable  snowcoaches have been expertly restored and offer an experience and memories that you’ll enjoy forever.

During a Yellowstone National Park winter snowcoach tour, you can expect to see incredible sights such as beautiful waterfalls, towering mountains, and vast stretches of pristine snow-covered wilderness. The area is also home to a variety of wildlife, including bison, elk, and wolves, which can often be spotted along the tour route.

Snowcoach tours offer a range of itineraries, from half-day trips to multi-day excursions. The tours are led by knowledgeable guides who will provide commentary on the history and geology of the park, as well as information about its wildlife and ecosystems.

Big Springs & Meadow Creek Lodge

Big Springs is among the top 10 largest fresh water springs in the world.  Choose from a shorter scenic 1-2 hour tour, 1/2 day tour or a full day ski tour.  Half day and full day tours can request lunch at Meadow Creek Lodge.

Following the historic Shortline Rail Line, and using the old bridge for access.  You can add in a cross-country ski option to have even more fun. It’s great for all levels of skiers, including first timers.

Mesa Falls, Lower Mesa Falls

View upper Mesa Falls from the brink of a 114 ft drop.  It’s a bit of a snowy walk, but worth the effort.  The canyon below is a beautiful sight, with a volcanic history.

Cross-country ski, or snowshoe a peaceful nature trail 1 mile downstream to view the lower falls.  It’s great for beginners and first timers.

The canyon rim trail offers a variety of options that includes a 3-mile one way scenic tour, skiing the canyon rim downstream and downhill.  Your Bombardier snowcoach will be waiting for you at the bottom.

If you’re planning a winter visit to Yellowstone National Park, a snowcoach tour of Island Park is a must-do experience. Just be sure to dress warmly and bring along plenty of layers, as temperatures in the park during the winter can be extremely cold.
